Top 5 Solar Eclipse Tips

1. Wear Glasses that are Certified

No, those super dark shades work great on a sunny day, but will not protect your eyes for the Solar Eclipse. Double check if the glasses you are buying are certified to keep your eyes safe during the Eclipse. Some great places to check is with NASA and the American Astronomical Society.

2. Check with your local Library

Library is not only great for finding out more information about the eclipse, but also if you are needing to borrow a pair of Solar Eclipse Glasses. Go visit your local Library to get informed about this astronomical event and how to keep your eyes safe.

3. Find the coolest spot around

Many of the Nations Public Lands are holding special events so the public can enjoy the Eclipse to the fullest. The National Park Service has teamed up with NASA for the hosting different Eclipse Events, at a variety of places in the US. Do you live where there is only a partial Eclipse? Some Public Lands are even hosting get togethers outside the totality area.

4. Research your Terrain

Crowds not your thing? If you are traveling into the backcountry to view the Eclipse check with the local Ranger Office first. From fires to flooding, the country has been facing rough weather this summer that may effect closures of roads and campsites.

5. Electronics Do Not keep your Eyes Safe

Watching the Solar Eclipse through a telescope or an electronic device may be tempting but not recommended. According to NASA it is safe to photograph the eclipse during totality but viewing it through a device without Certified Glasses may still leave you blind when the sun is not fully blocked by the moon.  Keep your glasses on, set a timer or give yourself a well deserved break from technology.

Bonus!

Worried about the weather or can't make it to an area where you can see the Eclipse? Turn on PBS or check the NASA website for a live stream of the stellar event.
